Rocky Mounts Offset Bracket for R4 Tandem Bike Racks The Rocky Mounts Offset Bracket is for use on the RockyMount Tandem R4 Bicycle Rack and spaces the tandem mount carrier further outboard (by up to 9") on the base rack crossbar. This may be required to use the pivoting function of the Tandem Mount R4 on certain car rack set-ups because the front chainring of the tandem bike can hit the window or doorframe while loading the tandem. If you have enough cross bar available sticking past the tower (you need 5"), you will most likely not need the RockyMount Offset Bracket. If you mount the R4 tandem rack inside the base rack towers, you probably will need the Offset Bracket. If you are uncertain, our recommendation is to first purchase and mount the R4 tandem rack. You can then determine if there is or isn't enough clearance between the vehicle and front chainring when pivoting the bike up onto the car roof. If not, you can always purchase the Offset Bracket afterwards. You will certainly still be able to use the Rocky Mounts R4 Tandem Bike Rack, the Bracket just makes it easier to load the bicycle.
